A strong password, made on your device
Create a random password or an easy-to-type passphrase. It is generated with your browser's cryptographic random number generator and never leaves this page.
Very strong · about 130 bits of entropy
How strong is strong enough?
Strength is measured in bits of entropy: each bit doubles the number of guesses an attacker needs. A 20-character password using all four character sets has about 130 bits; a five-word passphrase has about 52 bits, which is enough for an online account with rate limiting, while six or more words are a better choice for a password manager's master password.
Good habits
- Use a different password for every account, so one breach cannot unlock the others.
- Keep them in a password manager and turn on two-factor authentication where you can.
- Change a password straight away when a service you use appears in a data breach.
